It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the revival of J. Wippell & Co. following a successful acquisition of the brand by Watts & Co.
J. Wippell & Co is known by many in the clerical wear community, especially those loyal customers who treasured this historical brand and its acumen for dependable tailoring.
The acquisition of Wippells was announced on the 21st June 2024, confirming the transference of the brand, fabrics, robes and thousands of original patterns used by the company, and a great deal of archival materials.
The name Wippells has long been associated with tailoring expertise and excellent craftsmanship, with its clerical wear patterns regarded with high esteem for over 200 years. It is a relief, then, that these patterns will not be lost to time, and that Wippells can continue to provide reliable and quality clerical services for customers old and new.
Wippells will remain an individual brand operating on its own terms, while being supported by Watts & Co. As before, Wippells’ strength will be in its historic tailoring knowledge, producing garments that are at once reliable and affordable. It will continue to supply clergy apparel and shirts along with their choir robes. Stoles, church fabrics, and communion silver will also be available.
